A Night at the Railway Museum – 2

Is old No. 73 under steam again? Not quite, but thanks to a little Hollywood magic, the former Northern Alberta Railways 2-8-0 sure gave that appearance at the Alberta Railway Museum’s second annual Night at the Railway Museum photo event on September 8. 2017.

A sell-out event with more than 30 photographers captured a “smoking” No. 73 on memory cards, along with other evening scenes that included streamlined Canadian National F-units at St. Albert station, an NAR “caboose hop” in the yard and classic 1950s Chevys at a Super Continental stop.

The result was a number of stunning visuals that brought history to life. We’re very pleased to be able to share a few here, courtesy the participant photographers. More can be seen at the Edmonton Shutterbugs website, https://www.meetup.com/The-Edmonton-Shutter-Bugs/photos/

So many people helped to make the 2017 Night at the Railway Museum another success, from our own museum volunteers (and students) to the incredible models arranged by the Edmonton Shutterbugs; from car owners with the Edmonton 567 Club to Spirit Halloween on 168 St., which provided one of the fog machines that brought No. 73 to life.

Night at the Railway Museum events are a unique opportunity to expose (pardon the pun) the museum to new audiences and generate publicity for our historic collection. Stay tuned for future events, and keep those flashbulbs handy!

OPERATION LIFESAVER

The Museum supports the efforts of Canada’s railways to promote safety. We highly recommend that our guests also visit the Operation Lifesaver website. There you’ll find more information about rail safety, including in-person presentations, videos, and other resources.
