Hi Everyone:
As you may have noticed, we have had a bit of a rainy summer. Thankfully we have not been rained out yet! However we were considering offering canoe rides as well as train rides earlier this season.
We have hosted several birthday parties and two weddings so far this season. The birthday parties are a lot of fun for kids of all ages. I am still waiting for someone to hold their adult birthday party at the Museum!
If you have not visited this season, please stop in at the station gift shop and introduce yourself to our summer staff, Monika, Anikka, and Maia. The staff have done a great job of manning the gift shop, giving tours, providing speeder rides, and scraping and painting on the days we are closed to the public.
Coming up on the August Heritage weekend, our steam locomotive 1392 will be pulling the train. The Northern Alberta Railway veterans will be visiting on the Monday. It’s always great to have them out to share their knowledge and stories of working on the NAR.
Finally, the Museum is excited and pleased to acquire a major donation from Procor Ltd. (you will have seen their tank cars on the railways) – a 1924 Bertram wheel lathe. This piece of equipment was used to true the wheels of the tank cars to their proper dimensions. The lathe is in operational condition and one day we hope to be able to use it at the Museum.
Thanks,
Stephen Yakimets, President
