What they say about us

The Alberta Railway Museum (ARM) is truly a must visit place! The story of the railway is intertwined with the story of our country and ARM does an excellent job of telling the story with railway equipment that worked the rails in Alberta. In addition, there is a large collection of artifacts that are displayed in a very understandable way. Kudos have to be given to the unseen volunteers who spend their time to not only maintain the collection but also restore important artifacts. As far as I am aware, ARM is the only non-government museum that has an operating steam locomotive and a 250t crane! Covid has been hard on every business but museums have really suffered, your admission fee can help ARM survive plus you will learn a lot of interesting information. Note that the speeder rides and looking at the collection was a big hit with the kids.

We celebrated my dad’s 70th birthday at the museum and it was such a good time. The staff were absolutely awesome in helping us organize the event and made sure everyone had a good time! We barbecued and got to use the dining car and dad got to ride up in the cab of the train! And it’s SO interesting! Lots to see and learn about.

Took my summer camp (Sports for Kids) here for a field trip. It was raining for most of the time but not a single kid complained. The staff was phenomenal! All of them seemed to love what they do and did a great job keeping the groups engaged. I myself had never been to this railway museum before and I had a great time. Some of the highlights the kids mentioned when we did of field trip recap back at our center were – Having lunch inside of a train car – taking a ride on a rail cart up and down their track – learning morse code and how to use a typewriter – getting gift bags and retro model train magazines – touring all the different train cars, which many included some sort of interactive component. Not many things were actually blocked off. If I could I would give this place a 6/5, I definitely suggest visiting here at least once. I myself will be returning in the future and our kids voted 100% Yes, that they would want to do this field again next summer. (The first time we have had a full 100% Yes on our “Yes, No, Maybe So” voting system) Thank you to the staff at the Alberta Railway Museum for taking a day with miserable weather and turning it into our top ranked field trip of the summer so far.

Great experience, lots to see with passionate and knowledgeable staff to help you have a great time. There are loads of train cars to explore.on the site. The long weekend had the steam engine running and the little train ride back and forth on the main tracks was fun. Check it out if you have even a small amount of interest in trains there will be something to keep you interested and exploring.

Visited for the first time as part of CN’s 100th anniversary celebration. It holds a great piece of Alberta/Canada’s history. The selection of railway equipment from mainly CN and the NAR (Northern Alberta Railway). Wondered around for almost 2 hours. It was interesting to see equipment that I had some experience with.

***ANNOUNCEMENT***I don’t want to brag but as of today we are officially SEASON pass holders (have a family membership) at @thealbertarailwaymuseum . For real though, it is pretty cool to see and be inside these juggernaut relics from the past… 400,000 pound marvels of engineering that pulled literal working hotels, post offices, banks and millions upon millions of humans and animals across the land nearly 150 years ago! The damn things built this continent and made it what it is. Trippy. I suggest checking it out. 30 min north of Edmonton. @ Alberta Railway Museum
