If you are looking for a place to visit for a family vacation in the Edmonton area of Alberta Canada, I’d highly recommend visiting the Alberta Railway Museum which is an all-volunteer ran nonprofit organization where there is a wide variety of train exhibits on display and trains that you can ride on and the main mission is the preservation of Canada’s rich railway heritage.
Great well-rounded museum with many of the different kinds of rolling stock to view; luxury passenger cars, cars for working crews, engineering crews, postal car as well as agricultural cars.
Great place to visit. There were types of railcars there that I have not seen at other railway museums. Enjoyed being able to ride the speeder and go into the water tower.
Really impressed with the progress that’s happened here since I last came years ago. Very nice collection of some unique equipment.
For sure will come back! A great place to learn about the railway in Alberta and if you have a kid obsessed with trains, this is a perfect place to visit.
I really enjoyed seeing the history of the place and all the knowledge it holds. Highly recommend proper footwear as you will be climbing in and out of trains and going between cars would not be enjoyable for anyone in heels or flip flops. There is so much interesting history and easy to get lost in it for hours. There is a bit of walking but this place is somewhere you can come back again and again and learn something new.
Excellent museum, with unique pieces. The only rail museum I know with a full work train on display.
