Hi Everyone, including our members, volunteers, supporters, and interested friends:
Where does the time go? In June opening day was ages away and now it is right around the corner. The usual gang of volunteers at the site have been chipping away at the task list, but now with only two Saturdays remaining before our soft opening, it is crunch time.
We will be hosting work parties for the next two Saturdays to “get ‘er done”, as Herb Dixon used to say. Barry Collis has produced a task list of items needing attention. Tasks range from putting up stairs to the display cars, to ensuring the walking tour makes sense, to debugging the display cars (sweeping up dead flies and general cleaning).
If you can lend a hand or two, things will start around 10 am and lists will be available. Water and ice cream will be available. Bring a picnic and stay for the day!
Our soft opening for friends and family is scheduled for Sunday July 25. We are implementing an online reservation system and this will be our chance to test it out before opening to the general public. I will send out a notice once we have the reservations implemented, it will be accessed directly from our website. We will be running speeders, which will give us a chance to test out the upgraded track conditions from the seat of our pants. You are all invited.
Our grand opening will be on July 31 for the August long weekend. We will be promoting our opening heavily via social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), please follow, like, and share the posts. Our #1 diesel will be pulling the train for the long weekend.
